Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is a public institution founded in 1990, unequivocally dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. It hosts 22 undergraduate programs in the fields of biomedical sciences, social sciences and humanities, media, and communication technologies. UPF offers a wide range of graduate programs, including doctoral degrees. Currently, UPF has over 11,000 students, 1,100 academic staff and 560 administrative and service personnel in an expanding campus in the heart of Barcelona. Despite its short history, the strong focus on excellence has led UPF to rank second among all Spanish universities in scientific productivity, as well as in becoming an internationally recognized contributor to state-of-the-art research in several of its areas of interest. Within UPF, the Department of Information and Communication Technologies currently features 60 full-time faculty members organized in 13 research groups spanning a wide range of topics. Within these, the Wireless Communications Group is the one engaged in the HIATUS project.
